Award winning – Photographic Artist of the year 2014!!!

Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) holds image competition, called Image Salon every year. This year, the winners were announced in Winnipeg in May. Trophies are awarded to 4 categories including Portrait, commercial, wedding photographer and photographic artist. Winners have to achieve high quality images from all technical and artistic view point of photography for all 4 submissions.

And…..I am a winner of Photographic artist of the year. This is exiting. I received a magazine, yesterday, from PPOC、carrying  an article featuring the 4 winners. Please take a look the article. I mentioned about my attitude toward landscape and portrait photography, and how I found my styles of horse images.

I should’ve written about the award earlier, but the reason is I did not have good a selphie. I knew this magazine is coming so I waited a photo of myself taken by a professional. I like photograph people, but no way myself! However, I would like to photograph trophies made of acrylic. This is challenging. I will post how it goes. Following is the winning images.

Gentle Beast – Beautiful Horses

Some of the readers here may have already known my project this year which is photographing my friend’s horses. They are so gentle and friendly so specific techniques are not required to photograph horses. But I realized that I have to pay attention some aspects capture their beauty and intimacy. Even a horse turns his head only a couple of inches further; his handsome face will be lost. I had to visit the ranch several times and learn a lot. Just recently, I feel I have become able to capture some good images from a visit.

I want to capture some dynamic action shots, but also I really like to see their friendship and affection.

This photo will be exhibited at my next solo gallery show in February. Stay Tuned.

Animal portrait – Horses, such a gentle animal

Last weekend, I had a chance to visit my friend’s farm just outside of Calgary, Alberta. My purpose of this visit was photographing their horses. My inner images were trying to capture horses running dynamically…with a little bit motion blur. However, due to the rain before the day, the soil was pretty muddy, they could not get out to the field. So I changed strategy and tried more close-up shorts and made it animal portrait. Hmmm…I don’t know since I stop caring ribbon collecting images or my photographic vocabulary is expanding?… now, I can get images making me feel good in any situations…most of times

Talking about and horses and western theme, my 6 photos are exhibited at Calgary Stampede Western photo gallery until July 15th.
